One of the selling points of House of the Dragon is that you're supposed to be able to look at either side of the conflict — whether it's Rhaenyra's "Blacks" or Alicent's "Greens" — and be able to find characters you can sympathize with. House of the Dragon is a story about the Targaryen family divided against itself. Years have passed since then, technology has gotten better, and House of the Dragon is poised to give us some epic, fully lit dragon-on-dragon battles. Getting back to more concrete matters, there's another big battle from the pages of Fire & Blood that we may or may not get to by the end of House of the Dragon season 2. Rhaenyra's son Jacaerys Velaryon will find himself as part of his mother's dragon airforce, alongside several other new characters known as the dragonseeds. Eventually, they attack a fleet of ships sent by the Triarchy — the same guys that Daemon and Corlys Velaryon were fighting early in the first season — in a fight known as the Battle of the Gullet. The Iron Throne passed then to Raymund, Robert's only legitimate male heir (out of a multitude of illegitimate bastards), a boy of six years who had now become king. The transference of power did not end the war as Stannis had hoped, for the small council in their wisdom recognized the threat Robert's brother and his young family posed to their king, now more than ever. The respite from war proved the necessary spark for the passions of Stannis and Daenerys, and while Robert made war with other houses, a son was born to them, named Rhaegar after the Targaryen prince that was meant to be king.

In the second novel, Stannis explains to Catelyn and Renly that he couldn't simply go to Robert and make such an accusation, that conveniently made Stannis the next on Robert's line of heirs; he needed Jon Arryn, whom Robert greatly trusted, to back him up. Following Arryn's death, Stannis most logical step was to contact Ned Stark, tell him what he and Arryn discovered, and ask Ned to support his accusation about Cersei's children. Robert would have probably believed Ned, since they were close friends. The reason Stannis has not acted that way is probably the grudge he bears against Ned (he also believed Jon had been assassinated by Cersei for uncovering her secret and feared she might try to eliminate him next). Stannis respects Eddard Stark, but strongly resents him for being Robert's best friend and for his appointment to the King's Hand - an office Stannis believed that he should have been granted.

As far as we know, Gendry is now the only surviving heir of King Robert, but he hasn’t been legitimized. King Robert's stern and uptight younger brother, Stannis is a man obsessed with his principles and always, always does what he feels to be his duty. Seventeen years later, Robert Baratheon died of a wound taken on a boar hunt. His eldest son, Joffrey Baratheon, now rules from the Iron Throne, but his rule is contested by those who claim that he was born of incest between the Queen and her twin brother, Jaime, including both of Robert's brothers.
